This canvas painting is dedicated to the missions and visions in life. The iceberg model of the subconscious, the complex möbius shapes, and a part of Emblisi stone beach on the mystical island of Kefalonia in Greece have inspired the artwork. This work has 3 layers. It is a large acrylic canvas painting, the middle area of the painting can be observed with ChromaDepth 3D glasses. When the painting is looked at through the AR augmented reality app ARTIVIVE, the observer can see a bodypainting of a couple in front of the painting and how the canvas painting was created.

The painting is a cityscape with a few famous places in Qingdao, a city in eastern Shandong Province on the east coast of China.

Since Qingdao was the birthplace of Taoism/Daoism/ the center of the painting is a Tao temple. The word Dao means way/path, therefore the central part is a path through the temple, symbolically a way through many gates and stages of life, personal, emotional and spiritual growth as human nature, beings, cultures, and countries, but also the path of the inner world of our own body as a temple of the human spirit, power, mind, faith and duality. All these elements of human nature cannot be easily grasped, explained or understood, their existence is similar to beauty or art-it is only in the eyes of the beholder.

This is an anti addiction art project. The statistics about alcohol abuse are shocking. Almost every person has had a friend or a family member, who have struggled with it, or lost the battle. My visual poem shows more or less a surreal vision of the world of an addicted person. The text afterwards is inspirational for those, who feel lost. This poem is a result of the pain I went trough of not being able to help people I care about with addiction. I hope there are others ready for a change. Please share it with people suffering from addiction. We have to work on creating a world, where children are taken so good care of, that the distruction and isolation have no chance to grow.

This work has been inspired by the symbols of the Finnish epic poetry Kalevala and the Seraphim: a celestial, heavenly being in Christianity and Judaism.

Often we are busy with past problems or future plans and forget one main thing- We Are a Part Of Nature, not apart from nature. This is also the name of this work. The nature is also a part of us. Sing a song in your own way. The perception is the key.

Body painting will be created only with special body painting colors. The camera man has filmed twice acrylic paint too- this one was used for the forest background, which was painted on canvas. The rest of the backdrop was painted on hand made Korean Painter with a brush and ink. Video by Dimitar Hristov.Andy Golub has an ongoing project of body painting in public in Times Square, New York. On September 29, 2012 he was joined by Craig Tracy, who was in New York to receive a Unique Art Award for Bodypainting. Craig invited me to come and see the process, and Andy was gracious enough to let me join in with some of the finishing touches as they were completing the body. Then we hopped in a cab and headed uptown to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the current Andy Warhol exhibit to photograph the painted model in juxtaposition with iconic works of art. The model is Trisha Benton, the photographer is Udor, the music is by The Meters (in homage to Craig’s home town) and I did the video.

Such a fun, beautiful New York day. I love the new Times Square plazas and have spent many hours sitting there at the little red tables. To be there making art with Andy and the world-famous Craig Tracy was such a gas. The day including an ongoing discussion of our various run-ins with censorship, and Andy’s public painting events are designed to generate such discussions. Bringing the painted model into one of the greatest art museums in the world is part of this discussion, because we all believe that bodypainting is a legitimate art form. As I have written about in this blog before, if I can paint an image of a fully naked body on a canvas and that is considered art suitable for a gallery or museum, then a fine art painting on a live naked body should be considered in the same context. Walking through the Met is itself an argument in support of this opinion, as that wonderful museum contains art of so many different types, of so many different media, that the definition of art has to be open enough to include a painted body. Our experience in the museum suggests that their overall policy and some of their staff may agree, because we were never kicked out — we did have to be somewhat clandestine: you’re not allowed to take any photos in some of the exhibits, the museum is a place where men can’t go topless either (so our model was legally supposed to keep her shirt on), and they understandably don’t want their museum used for any purpose other than to view the art — but we were never kicked out. Many of the museum guests were curious, some supportive and a few recognized Andy as the bodypainter in the news from Times square. Thank you, guys, for inviting me along.
